This Privacy Policy explains how Prism32 LLC (referred to as “Actually Read,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) processes information through the Actually Read iOS app and this website.
1. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to Actually Read and its website. Actually Read imports EPUB and PDF books that you select. The app has no separate Actually Read login account. Some features use Apple iCloud, Google/Firebase, or RevenueCat; those providers also process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
2. Information collected and processed
Information stored locally and in iCloud
Actually Read stores the following information in its local app database:
- book metadata, including title, author, format, import date, reading location, and reading progress;
- bookmarks and highlights;
- saved AI conversations and their messages;
- focus-session history;
- reader preferences and app settings; and
- local Advanced AI usage counters.
The app database synchronizes through your private Apple iCloud account. Imported source files are stored locally and synchronize through your private iCloud storage so your library is available across supported devices.
Advanced AI requests
Actually Read offers Advanced AI through Firebase AI using Google’s AI backend. When you ask a question, the app may send Google your question, relevant excerpts retrieved from the imported book, book metadata needed to contextualize the question, relevant recent conversation messages, instructions needed to generate a response, and token-count or request-related technical information produced by the service.
The app selects relevant excerpts on your device before making the request. It does not upload the entire book for every question. Google/Firebase processes the submitted information to generate and return a response. Do not submit highly sensitive personal information through Advanced AI.
Subscriptions and purchases
Actually Read uses RevenueCat to manage Actually Read Plus. RevenueCat may process an automatically generated subscription-management identifier; app and device-related identifiers used for subscription management; product identifiers; Apple purchase receipts and transaction identifiers; purchase and restore events; subscription and trial status; purchase and expiration dates; renewal and cancellation status; and access status.
Actually Read does not directly receive or store your payment-card details. Apple processes App Store billing.
Advanced AI usage limits
The app keeps a local usage record to provide and enforce Advanced AI allowances. Free users receive five successful Advanced AI answers per local installation. Active Plus users receive 300 successful Advanced AI answers per subscription period. Successful on-device AI answers are not counted.
This record includes information needed to determine whether an answer counts toward the applicable allowance. The local quota may reset if you reinstall the app or change devices.
Technical, analytics, and diagnostic information
The app initializes Firebase and includes Firebase AI and Firebase Analytics dependencies. Firebase and its underlying SDKs may automatically process limited technical information such as app version, device and operating-system information, app-instance or installation identifiers, request metadata, performance, reliability and diagnostic information, and basic interaction or usage information where Firebase Analytics automatic collection applies.
The app sends seven custom Firebase Analytics events: onboarding completion; adding a book; starting, completing, or stopping a focus session early; opening an EPUB or PDF reader; and submitting an AI question or recap request. These events help us understand feature adoption and improve the app. Event parameters include onboarding version, book source and format, timer or stopwatch mode, whether Deep Focus is enabled and a book is linked, book kind, planned and actual focus duration, and AI action type. Custom events do not include book titles, authors, book or focus-session identifiers, reading content, or chat text. An AI submission event records the action type, not the question or answer.
Firebase Analytics also automatically collects events and technical data, such as app opens and updates, sessions, app version, device model, operating system, and approximate geographic information. It uses an app-instance identifier to distinguish installations and may collect the Apple vendor identifier (IDFV), or the advertising identifier (IDFA) when available under Apple’s requirements. These SDK identifiers are separate from the book and focus-session identifiers excluded from custom events. Analytics collection is enabled in the current app, and there is currently no in-app analytics opt-out.
The app does not currently implement Firebase Crashlytics. Apple may separately provide aggregated App Store and TestFlight analytics or diagnostics according to your Apple privacy and analytics settings.
3. On-device processing
Book preparation, text extraction, indexing, search, evidence retrieval, reading-position tracking, and similar reader operations occur on your device.
On supported Apple devices, Actually Read may offer on-device AI. When a response is generated entirely through that system, the question and selected book excerpts are not sent to Google/Firebase for that response. Availability depends on your device, operating system, language, and Apple Intelligence availability. If you do not want book questions processed by Google, select on-device AI when available or avoid Advanced AI.
4. How information is used
Information is processed to import, display, organize, and synchronize your library; preserve reading progress, preferences, bookmarks, highlights, focus sessions, and conversations; retrieve relevant book evidence and answer questions; provide and enforce AI allowances; manage, restore, and support subscriptions; understand feature adoption and improve the app; maintain app performance, reliability, and security; respond to support or privacy requests; prevent fraud; comply with legal obligations; and resolve disputes.
6. Apple and iCloud
Reading progress, focus sessions, bookmarks, highlights, saved conversations, library metadata, the app database, and imported source files may synchronize through your private iCloud account. Apple processes this data under your Apple Account and Apple’s terms. Actually Read does not receive your Apple Account credentials, Apple ID, or iCloud password.

7. Google/Firebase and Advanced AI
Google/Firebase handles Advanced AI request data according to the applicable service terms, project configuration, and provider documentation. Google may log, retain, review, or use submitted or technical data as allowed by those terms and settings. Actually Read does not promise a specific Google retention period.

8. RevenueCat and subscriptions
RevenueCat processes subscription information to determine whether Actually Read Plus features are available and to support purchases and restoration. Deleting the app does not cancel an active subscription.
You can manage or cancel Plus through the Manage Subscription button in Actually Read, which opens RevenueCat Customer Center and Apple subscription-management options where applicable; iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions; or the App Store’s subscription-management interface.

9. Data retention
- Local information remains until you delete the associated content, delete the app, or the app removes it as part of normal operation.
- Information synchronized to iCloud remains according to your iCloud settings and Apple’s retention practices.
- Subscription and transaction records remain with Apple and RevenueCat for the periods needed to provide subscription services, prevent fraud, meet financial or legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
- Advanced AI request data and Analytics data are retained according to the applicable Google/Firebase service terms and project configuration.
10. Your controls and deletion
You can avoid Advanced AI; select on-device AI when available; delete imported books from the Library; delete individual bookmarks and highlights through reader controls; manage Actually Read’s iCloud access in Apple Account and iCloud settings; manage or cancel Plus through the app, iOS Settings, or the App Store; stop using the app and delete it; or contact support@actuallyread.com with privacy questions or requests.
Deleting books and app data
Deleting an imported book removes its local database record; associated bookmarks, highlights, conversations, and messages; prepared local files and indexes; and the synchronized imported source file from the app’s iCloud container. Because iCloud synchronization can be delayed or temporarily unavailable, deletion may take time to reach other devices.
Questions and responses are saved in the app database and may synchronize through private iCloud. There is currently no separate control to delete an individual saved conversation. Deleting its book removes that book’s related conversations and messages.
Deleting the app removes locally stored app data from that device, but may not remove data already synchronized to iCloud, cancel an active subscription, or remove records held by Apple, RevenueCat, or another provider under its policy. Disabling iCloud synchronization does not necessarily delete existing iCloud data.
Because there is no Actually Read login account, we may not be able to identify or retrieve information stored only on your device or in your private iCloud account. We cannot directly delete records controlled solely by your Apple Account. Requests involving Apple-managed purchases or iCloud data may need to be handled through Apple, and provider records may remain where legally or operationally required.
11. Children’s privacy
Where legally applicable, Actually Read is not directed toward children. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information outside the app functionality described in this policy. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Actually Read, contact us so we can review the circumstances and take appropriate action.
12. International processing and transfers
Apple, Google/Firebase, and RevenueCat may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Those providers handle international processing and transfers under their applicable safeguards, terms, and privacy policies.
13. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information handled through Actually Read. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app, providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update its effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or another appropriate channel.
